Player’s Championship Qualifier 13 Recap
The final Player’s Championship Qualifier has come to a close this past weekend! With the push for Standard in the new year, we decided on one last hurrah for Pioneer to round out our qualifying events. 18 players showed up to battle it out for the very last spot that could be earned through our weekend tournaments. At the end of our Top 8 rounds, it was the aggressive Rakdos Mice deck, wielded by me, Travis Benedict, that claimed first place. Combining pump spells with the numerous red Mouse cards from Bloomburrow, this deck aims to end the game quickly by making a giant creature and throwing it at the opponent with Callous Sell-Sword’s adventure spell, Burn Together. Let’s look at the winning deck list as well as the rest of our Top 8 decks!
Travis Benedict – Rakdos Mice (1st)
Brad Perry – Selesnya Auras (2nd)
Matt Bailey – Azorius Lotus Field (3rd-4th)
Connor Cheney – Boros Burn (3rd-4th)
Adam Joyce – Dimir Ninjas (5th-8th)
Doug Maguire – Boros Burn (5th-8th)
Tijler de Jong – Jund Soulflayer (5th-8th)
Sam Somers – Boros Convoke (5th-8th)
With the end of the last Qualifier, we have 10 individual players qualified through our tournaments, which leaves 6 more spots! It looked like a clean cut initially, but sadly one attendee will be out of town during the tournament, so we have a pass down invite! It was a nail-biter, with three people at 9 points that could potentially take the spot. The player with just slightly more finishes near the top took it, leaving us with these 16 players that will battle for the belt on December 14th, where we will be drafting Mystery Booster 2 and playing Modern:
- Frank Leblanc
- Michael Cameron
- Connor Cheney
- Michael Giles
- Matthew Bailey
- Chris Brackley
- Norm Labelle
- Travis Benedict
- Adam Joyce
- Olivier Mayer
- Brad Perry
- Leah Wiseman
